The Wedding Book- Chapter 1

Hey guys,

If you don’t follow me on instagram, you’d not know that I am going to get married soon. So please follow me there to get the latest update on my life and my wardrobe. If you’re reading this, you are either going to get married soon or are just stalking my content. Well whatever might be the case, you’re welcome. I am going to keep posting about it in chapters as I embark upon this maddening wedding journey.

I am going bonkers thinking about it would be an understatement, lets start from there.

This blog is going to be about the things you need to do first in order to plan your own wedding. If your parents are doing it for you, well you don’t need this blog post, they usually have everything sorted. In our case, our parents have given us all the liberty to do it on our own with a little help from them. You can’t exclude Indian Parents from your wedding preparations. It just doesn’t happen that way here.

So Mr. X and I decided to have a simple wedding with just our closed ones in attendance. Of course our bubble was burst with a pin called parents’ expectations. So obviously a lot of people, we are not even acquainted with are expected to come. Now mind you, a lot of decisions are going to be taken because of these unknown population.

So here goes a few steps you need to take to start-

Step 1: Be prepared- which to this date, I am not. Easy to say monstrously difficult to do.

Step 2: Talk about your budget with your parents and partner for the day. If you’re going to split the expenses, talk it out. If not, talk to your parents on how you’re going to manage on your own or with a little help from them. Once that is sorted, you can dive into the madness.

Step 3: Decide on the specifics- Talk about the venue, date, caterer and ceremonies. For dates you’ll need a pandit in a hindu wedding to tell you which dates are auspicious for your wedding. Which kind of venue do you want? an indoor or an outdoor one. Once you have the date ready, you can start looking for availability of the venues for the day. Its gonna drain you out. You’ll be surprised how early these get booked. Decide on what kind of food you want to serve your guest and book the caterers accordingly. As for ceremonies, discuss with both the set of parents and finalise them. Also you can check various wedding planning websites for this. wedmegood is one website with good reviews.

Step 4: Decide the budget for step 3.

Step 5: Decorators- If you have something in mind and are creative like that then tell the decorator your ideas. Most of the decorators customise on request. I however am still looking up for ideas on pinterest wedding boards. As much as I enjoy looking at them, I know you can’t exactly achieve that. Also the number of options will get you confused big time. So stay strong and don’t get carried away.

That’s all I have done so far. I hope it helps you in some ways. Stay tuned for more.

Until next chapter,

Love
